Mountains of

 mountaineering in South Africa

South Africa offers incredible mountaineering opportunities with some very remote, seldom climbed and even unclimbed peaks to explore.

Specifically the Western Cape mountains and the KZN Drakensberg offers great wilderness mountaineering experiences in untouched surroundings.

Winter mountaineering can also be enjoyed in the colder months and many people are surprised at the snow and ice conditions that exist in Africa.

Various regional high points and points of prominence can be reached including some “ultra’s”.

Popular Cape climbs include Du Toit’s Peak, Cederberg Sneeuberg, Seweweekspoort Peak and the area surrounding Matroosberg in the Hex River Mountains. In KZN and Lesotho two popular peaks of prominence includes Mafadi Peak and Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest point south of Kilimanjaro.
