Single-pitch guide
This professional development training course is aimed at the person who is serious about qualifying for a career as an adventure guide or anyone who runs rock climbing adventures as part of their work or for recreation such as school teachers, camp councilors and social worker. The course is for persons who are already competent single-pitch climbers and now wanting to start a guiding career.
Who should do this course?
This is the ideal course for those wanting to supervise group climbing activities in the single-pitch environment at both traditional and bolt-protected (sport) venues. The course follows the National Qualifications Syllabus for Single Pitch Rock Climbing Guide and thus also covers the MDT Single-Pitch Supervisor Award Syllabus.
Topics covered include:
Equipment, knots, group management; anchoring principles & set-ups, client care and communication, guide books & route finding, dealing with emergencies, leading on sport and traditional (optional) routes.
We’ll supply all the equipment you need and give you plenty of toys to try out during the course so that you can make informed choices when you do decide to buy your own kit.
Multi-pitch guide
This professional development training course is aimed at the person who is serious about qualifying for a career as a mountaineering adventure guide and is pitched at NQF Level 6 candidates with extensive climbing experience. The course is for persons who are already competent traditional multi-pitch climbers with previous guiding experience.
Who should do this course?
This is the ideal course for those wanting to be multi-pitch rock climbing guides and who already have guiding experience. Potential learners must already be qualified abseil, single-pitch and mountain walking guides.
Topics covered include:
Equipment, knots, group management; anchoring principles & set-ups, client care and communication, guide books & route finding, dealing with emergencies, leading on sport and traditional multi-pitch routes, self-rescue, advanced rescue and instructing skills.
Participants are expected to have their own personal rock climbing and guiding equipment.

Learners wishing to complete this course must either be qualified abseil guides or attend the abseil guide training course first.
