Why take a hiking course?
Ever wondered why the volunteer mountain rescue services in the Cape is the busiest in the country? Because people venture into the mountains without the correct knowledge and preparation.
This course will teach you all the basics and give you some valuble experience under the guidance of a certified instructor. We will get you out into the hills safely and give you the confidence to lead your own recreational hikes.
Who should do this course?
Any person wishing to take up hiking as a sport or hobby or wanting to cement their hiking skills.
The course is run has one theory day and 3 practical days and runs over two weekends. The first weekend includes a day hike on Table Mountain and the second weekend is away in the Cederberg or on one of the national hiking way trails.
Topics covered include: equipment, planning, access, leadership skills, basic navigation, mountain safety and emergency procedures.
We’ll supply all the equipment you need and give you plenty of toys to try out during the course so that you can make informed choices when you do decide to buy your own kit.
