Venture Forth is an accredited training and assessment centre for the SA Mountaineering Development Trust (MDT) and offer training and assessment for national qualifications in adventure and mountain guiding. Our trainers are all active, full-time guides with years of experience in the field which they are always willing to share with you. These are people who are passionate about the mountains and climb for personal recreation as well; and not only when at work.

Our aim is to develop our students’ technical competence while instilling a love and respect for the mountains. Courses are kept small and personal and the vibe is always warm, friendly and non-competitive. We have your interest at heart whether you are taking your first steps in the mountain environment or training for a national qualification in guiding. Top-rope Supervisor Course - 2 Days

This course is designed for those starting out as climbing instructors or working as climbing wall or crag supervisors. It covers everything you need to know to competently and safely supervise top-rope protected climbing situations.

Abseil Supervisor Course - 3 or 4 Days

This is a very intensive course for those wishing to work in the field of supervising or guiding abseiling. The course covers equipment, anchoring, releasable abseils, client care, self- and client rescue and many other technical and soft skills.

Single-pitch Supervisor Course - 2 Days

Covers all the skills required to bring the abseil supervisor or guide into the climbing arena. Learn to supervise top-rope and lead climbing while teaching the correct techniques. This is an important course for those wanting to progress to the higher levels of mountain guiding.

Basic Mountain Walking Leader Course - 5 Days

This is an ideal course for those wanting to lead hiking trails and day hikes or for newcomers to the mountains wishing to learn some basic skills before heading for the hills. The course covers basic navigation and map reading, equipment, trip planning, group leadership, mountain hazards & first aid.

Advanced Mountain Walking Leader Course - 7 Days

The course for the serious enthusiast or prospective mountain guide alike. Covers equipment, advanced navigation, walking skills, camp craft, mountain hazards, first aid, nutrition, weather, safety on steep ground, group management and trip planning.
